Welcome to KustomkopyKat!

We spend hours on Pinterest!  Looking at everything..... if your like me you do a lot of oohing and awing.  Then you wonder, "Can I do that?"  Doesn't it look easy. I think that all the time.... ok, most of the time.  I repin lots of stuff.  One of my favorite things to do is snap a pic with my IPhone so it is saved to my pics!  That way I can scroll thru my pics and find all I need to Kopykat something while shopping at Wallyworld or Micheal's. I suppose I do have to say I've been to Hobby Lobby twice.  And its cool.... if you have plenty of dough in your pocket...   My favorite part of Hobby Lobby is the 5 clearance isles!!!!  Which reminds me........ I don't really like spending a ton of money on these projects (although my bank account may beg to differ!) I try to copy everything I like and make it my own!  It doesn't always work out so well.... It's a learning experience with every project. I don't know about you all..... but I seem to have a knack for getting the whole household involved in helping me in some form or another.  If it isn't holding the tape measure, it is changing out the batteries in the cordless drill.  And sometimes its running down to the hardware store for me.

I'm a complete Kopykat!  I can spot a great idea a mile away... and I have no problem sorting thru Pinterest until I find the right "new project" for me to Kopy.... this blog is all about those projects... I may not always remember who I Kopied it from.... But rest assured, if its on my page.... its kopied.  and although I do follow a few blogs.... I DEPEND on Pinterest to supply all my ideas!

I've had these chairs for about 10 years now... sitting on my back patio 1/2 of that time..... they've gotten a bit weathered! and not in a good way.... So,  I did what all Kopykats do... I looked on Pinterest at probably 20 different furniture makeovers and felt I had gained enough knowledge to tackle this job.... Here is a sneak peak at the before and then with some primer. If you look closely you'll notice one of the doo hickies is missing in one of the arms... Luckily I had the do hicky!  Aaaaah. But to figure out a way to get it back in there... the legs had lost most of the wicker wrap too! What to do.... what to do...  Stay tuned.  And I'll show you what I did to completely change this drap to fab!

embracingmessy  was a great inspiration for this wicker makeover!  You'll find her site a inspiration to become a kopykat!!

Wicker Makeover

Hello all!  I'm so excited to share with you about my wicker chair project!  It took me7 days start to finish on this project.  2 of those days I didnt even mess with the project. Patience.......... isnt something I have much of! But enough about all that!  Lets get to the good stuff.........

I took the 2 wicker chairs out onto the back lawn and had to figure out a way to get that little doo hicky that was missing from the arm of the chair back into it and glue it so it wont ever fall out again.  What to do, what to do...

You'll see the little doo hicky sitting on the chair.  I knew i needed to glue it down, but how was I gonna get it to stay put together?  Well, where there is a will, there is a way! I used Elmer's Wood Glue.  Its what was in my junk drawer, and it worked great!
Hey! Dont knock it!  It worked. I know it looks a mess!! I only had two clamps and it was still not holding it shut.  Desperate times call for desperate measures. I got into my Dollar Tree bag of zip ties and went to town.  Once I felt is was secure and gonna hold the doo hicky in place I wiped all the Elmers Wood Glue that had dripped and began applying grey primer.  Once the primer was all applied I let it sit for 2 days to dry. Then I started applying Black spray paint..
I used Walmart primer and Walmart black spray paint.  This was my first project and I didnt want to invest money into those old chairs if they werent gonna turn out.

I used one can of grey primer for each chair.  The chairs were very dry from all the outdoor exposure over the years.  I also used two cans of Black for each chair.  These cans of paint cost .97 cents a can.  By day 5 the chairs each had 3 coats of black on them. I  went to JoAnns Fabrics and bought 1 yard of bright yellow fabric for $7.99.

Total amount of money spent $ 14.92!!!  I already had the wood glue.

And here is the end result!!!  I'm very happy with how everything turned out.

I had two wicker Chairs.  One has a yellow cushion in the kids room.  One had more trendy cushion at my computer desk.  Cuz, I'm worth it!  it makes me feel special whenever I sit in it!!  :) hehehehe

O, I almost forgot... the wicker around the legs on 2 legs on each chair was missing... So... I had to come up with something... I dont know beans about wicker workings.  I decided on twisted twin.  Why did i choose it?  EASY!! It too was in the junk drawer! :)  So I ripped off all remaining wicker on all four legs of each chair and wrapped the legs with the twin!  Then I hauled the chairs back outside to the backyard and spray painted over the twine with the black spray paint... and this is the end result!!

Not too shabby if I do say so myself!!

This is the arm that was missing the doo hicky.  Turned out great!
Here are my two chairs.... now if only I had more decorating skills............  I'm open to suggestions!!

If it weren't for Pinterest I probably would have tossed this chairs out...
If any of you noticed.... there is beautiful wood under the pics of the cans of paint..... that is my very first pallet project!!!   And I LOVE IT!!   Stay tuned..... there's more to come from the Kopycat
